Hong Kong and the People my Voice Found

When I think of Hong Kong, I don’t just think of its glittering skyline or the rhythm of its fast-paced streets. I think of music, luxury, and the remarkable people I met along the way, all because of my God and the gift of my voice.

It all began the moment I landed for the first time at the HK airport in the middle of winter. A hotel chauffeur greeted me at the gate and ushered me into my ride, a sleek limousine. I was giddy and immediately went in. I gazed out the window in awe, not quite believing this was real. The air was cold and crisp, a soft mist blanketing the city like a whispered welcome. I was wrapped in layers, still shivering a little, taking in this unfamiliar season. I had never really known winter until then. Inside, there was chilled champagne, a tray of elegant snacks, and the soft hum of welcome in the air. The landscape outside the limousine window was different from anything I was used to. Grey skies, fogged glass, city lights glowing against the haze. It felt like I had entered another world, and in many ways, I had. I sat in awe, cradled in leather seats, watching the city pass me by, my breath catching at every turn. This was real. This was mine.

Shortly after the wonderful ride, I arrived at my workplace, the most grandiose hotel I've ever seen. I stepped out of the car and into a scene I had only seen in movies. Tall glass doors, doormen in polished uniforms, and the quiet elegance in the air. The hotel concierge greeted me with a warm smile and promptly took my luggage, assuring me it would be delivered to my room. The grandeur hit me instantly. The lobby was breathtaking with soaring ceilings, marble floors, and elegant holiday trimmings that hinted Christmas was near. Everything sparkled, from the chandelier above to the polished brass accents around me. There was a sense of timeless beauty in every corner.

I approached the front desk and was warmly welcomed by the cheerful staff. The receptionist handed me my room key and informed me I would be staying on one of the highest floors. A wonderful staff member then escorted me to my room, walking me through the quiet, carpeted hallways. He gave me a quick tour of the suite and guaranteed assistance to my every need. He was kind and gracious with his friendly smile.

As the door gently clicked shut behind me, I took in the space around me, elegant, serene, and filled with light. On the desk sat a neatly placed envelope. I opened it to find a welcome letter from the general manager, expressing how delighted they were to have me grace their evenings with music. It was a small gesture, but it meant everything. Then I turned toward the window. My suite overlooked Victoria Harbour. An uninterrupted view of shimmering water and city lights that seemed to dance just for me. I stood there, young and wide-eyed, filled with so much hope. I was beautiful, talented, and ready to live the dream.

Looking back on this chapter of my life, I see it through different eyes. At the time, I was captivated by the beauty, the opportunities, and the doors that opened before me. I remember feeling amazed by the places I went to, the kindness I received, and the gift God had given me through my voice. Today, I recognize that those moments were never just about the luxury, the recognition, or the dream I was chasing. They were reminders of God’s generosity and His ability to place us exactly where we need to be. The greatest blessings were not the limousine rides, the beautiful rooms, or the breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour. They were the people I encountered, the connections I made, and the ways my voice became a bridge to others. I also look back with a more grateful and humble heart. The younger version of me saw a dream unfolding; the person I am today sees God’s hand guiding every step. Every stage, every person, and every opportunity became part of a greater story than I could have written for myself.

Hong Kong will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only because of the incredible time I had, but because of what God taught me through this experience. My voice was a gift, but the purpose behind it was always His.
